WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — People all over the world are celebrating New Year's Eve, and there is a new tradition for folks to enjoy in Luzerne County.
Sunday night is Wilkes-Barre Township's inaugural blueberry drop.
The festivities at the township's volunteer fire department on Watson Street include food, drinks and live music.
At midnight, a six-foot-wide blueberry will be lowered from the ladder of a fire truck.
Organizers say it pays homage to the area's history. Many of the township's residents used to pick blueberries to sell to local bakeries in the 1940's and 1950’s.
All proceeds from the event will go to Wilkes-Barre Township's fire department.
