Dominion takes responsibility for Luzerne County mail-in ballot misspelling

Dominion Voting Systems is taking responsibility for the misspelling of State Representative Alec Ryncavage's last name on 6,700 mail-in ballots.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — On Friday, it was determined that 6,700 mail-in ballots in Luzerne County were sent out with a spelling error. Now, the vendor is taking the blame.

The Luzerne County Bureau of Elections says Dominion Voting Systems, the vendor the bureau used to send out the mail-in ballots, has taken full responsibility for a misspelling on the ballot for the 119th Legislative District.

Dominion released a statement saying, "Since the reporting of a misspelled candidate name on mailed ballots in the 119th Legislative District, we have been working around the clock to assist the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections in their efforts to ensure all impacted voters receive correct ballots. We apologize for the inconvenience and take full responsibility for the misspelling. This situation was due to human error and is now resolved."

Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo issued a response saying in part, "I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dominion for their collaborative efforts with Luzerne County to address the recent 119th Legislative District ballot issue. I also appreciate the acknowledgment that the County Election Bureau has diligently performed all of its tasks with precision and integrity."

The bureau of elections says those 6,700 ballots will be canceled, and new ones, along with informational cards, will be mailed to all the affected voters.

Dominion has also offered to cover the costs associated with printing and mailing those materials.

If you have already returned the original ballot, you will still receive the corrected ballot.
