WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Mickey Mouse and all his friends are in Luzerne County this weekend and on a very important mission. Disney on Ice is back at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
"You're going to see all your favorite characters. Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy. You're going to see characters from Moana, Frozen, Coco, Toy Story, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, the whole bunch," said Izzi Gorowsky, one of the ensemble performers.
But in every story, there is a villain, and the villain in this one is Captain Hook and his pirates. They've captured Tinker Bell and taken her magic, so Mickey and his friends go on a journey to solve the clues; this year's show is called Mickey's Search Party.
"We go on a search party to get that magic back. We get to travel through all the different stories. You'll see high-flying acrobatics, as well as world-class skating, and at the end, maybe we'll get Tinker Bell back," Gorowsky said.
The magic happens on the ice and in the air, and performers tell Newswatch 16 this show is one of their favorites because of the storyline and the visuals. There are hoverboards on ice, sway poles, fire sails, and more.
"We have a lot of good projection mapping on this show, so of course, it's very visually effective, and it makes you feel like you're in a different place, a different environment; it takes you away from the reality and puts you in a dream setting," said Alexander Allen, the performance director.
"Just a super immersive performance for your family, and it's such a memorable experience," Gorowsky said.
The show runs all weekend long at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m., 3 p.m.and 7 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, and one final show at noon on Monday.
Tickets start at $15, and you can purchase them here.
