Decorating the Warrior Tree in Edwardsville

Folks in Edwardsville spent Saturday decorating and honoring those who serve our country as part of the Warrior Tree Project.

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. — Many folks came out to decorate a tree dedicated to those who serve our country during the holidays. It's called the Warrior Tree, located in Veterans Park in Edwardsville.

Recruiters from all branches of the military and their candidates were invited to help.

All the stars on the tree represent something different.

"Each star has a color on the back of it. A solid color red that represents all of our veterans that are retired or just veteran status, or that they are in the reserves. The white stars represent the wounded in action. Blue stars represent combat deployed or just active duty. Then we have the yellow stars, which is our killed in action, our gold stars. Then we have black, which is POWs and MIAs," said Karen Declet, Edwardsville Warrior Tree Project founder.

The lighting ceremony for the Warrior Tree will take place Sunday at 3 p.m. in Luzerne County.
