WEST WYOMING, Pa. — For Decades Rita Galenty of West Wyoming has come to this corner to watch the Memorial Day Parade through her neighborhood.
"I always come to the parade because I'm one of 13 children. And I had 10 brothers, two sisters, nine brothers were servicemen. And I come to honor them and to all the servicemen you know," said Rita Galenty, West Wyoming.
Just as this is a tradition for her, it's also a tradition for the members of the Wyoming VFW Post 369.
"Yes, every year, we celebrate pretty much a memorial for the men that have passed in all wars," said Emory Ishley, VFW Post Commander 396.
For siblings Lucy and Nate Obrzut of West Pittston, playing patriotic songs during this observation of Memorial Day has become a tradition, too, "As long as I've been in the band for about five years, six years, we've always been coming to these parades playing, you know, memory of the veterans that have gone," said Nate.
Seeing the next generation take part is something that the members of the VFW say is important.
"To get the younger generation knowledgeable on a lot of the stuff that has happened while we're still here. We're a free country, and to protect everything that we have," said Emory.
Faithful parade goers like Rita Galenty say her patriotism and respect for our fallen soldiers will not stop at the end of the parade she will continue with prayers, "And my mother always said put the American flag up. So that's what I do."
