PLAINS TOWNSHIP -- A supermarket worker was taken to the hospital after he was stabbed by a customer in the store.

Witnesses say they heard that supermarket worker screaming for help after a man stabbed him with a pair of scissors Wednesday morning.

It happened around 7 a.m. The store had been open about an hour, and was pretty empty.

Workers say their colleague started shouting for help after a customer attacked him with a pair of scissors.

This Weis Market on North River Street near Wilkes-Barre was closed for business, as detectives arrived to investigate. A trail of blood sat in the entrance.

Through a crack in the door, a woman described how she rushed to rescue her colleague.

"He was yelling for help and when we went, he had already stabbed him."

Workers say it took four people including a customer to hold the attacker down, and when they got control of him, they discoverd he had three pairs of scissors. Police arrived and took the man away.

Witnesses say the attacker used the scissors to stab the worker in the shoulder and the arm.

Susan Brody says the victim was always friendly and helpful.

"Always a nice person, I am shocked. I am shocked at what happened"

The assistant manager of the Family Dollar store next to the market says she will now be more vigilant about safety.

"I will be more safe. I will be more cautious to who is in the store," said Heather Multsh.

People at the shopping center say their hats are off to the customers and workers who held down the attacker until police arrived.
