LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — NAZ CHD Awareness and Family Planning organized an event on Sunday to benefit congenital heart defect awareness.
A congenital heart defect happens when the heart or nearby blood vessels don't develop normally before birth.
Anytime Fitness in the Midway Shopping Center in Wyoming held a cupcake decorating event on Sunday. Folks could stop by and decorate a cupcake for a dollar.
"February is heart month, and a lot of people forget that February is heart month, so it gets pushed aside, and these kids do need a chance, and they need an opportunity," said Kat Figueroa, Operations Fitness Manager.
Not only is February American Heart Month in Pennsylvania, but February 7 to 15 is designated as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week.
