WILKES-BARRE — Officials with a credit union based in Luzerne County have put restrictions on thousands of member’s debit cards because of a rash of fraud.
Officials at Choice One Community Credit Union in Wilkes-Barre tell Newswatch 16 several customers’ debit card numbers were used at stores without their permission last week.
Changes have been made so debit cards will still work if members use their pin numbers. But they will not work if they are used as a credit card and require a signature.
Credit union officials say customers will be refunded for fraudulent charges and the debit card restriction is only temporary.
