UPDATE: Driver dies in crash in Luzerne County

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — UPDATE: One of the drivers, Mark Coulter, 61, died at the scene, according to police.

A crash closed part of a road in Luzerne County on Saturday morning.

Two vehicles collided around 10:15 a.m. in Dallas Township, according to emergency dispatchers.

It happened along Route 309 (known locally as the Tunkhannock Highway) near its intersection with Old Highway Road.

911 officials could only tell Newswatch 16 that the crash left one or more people hurt and that it closed the roadway.

PennDOT alerts showed Route 309 was closed in both directions between Upper Demunds and Kunkle Roads for almost 4 hours.

The road was reopened around 2 p.m. Saturday.

There is no word about what caused the wreck.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dallas Township Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police in Wilkes-Barre.
