Courtdale Park opens in Luzerne County

A park in Luzerne County unveiled major upgrades during a grand opening ceremony on Saturday.

COURTDALE, Pa. — Saturday was the start of something new in part of Luzerne County.

It was the grand opening of the new and improved park on Academy Street Park in Courtdale.

Thanks to a $475,000 grant from the county's American Rescue Plan Funding, officials in Courtdale say they were able to upgrade the park with not only new equipment but also make the playground ADA accessible and sensory-friendly.

"It's humbling and exciting to have all the kids here, and yeah, we're just excited to have a place that is updated and that the kids can utilize that is outdoors maybe instead of being on electronics so much, so we're excited," said Mayor Jacki Degnan, (R) Courtdale.

The grand opening celebration of the park included face painting, food trucks, and a DJ in Luzerne County.
