LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Officials in Luzerne County are investigating a homicide.
A news release from the District Attorney's Office confirms that troopers located a body around noon on Wednesday in a wooded area near Hazleton High School.
Troopers were first called to the area after receiving several tips, and it was difficult to remove the body due to the density of the woods, according to the news release.
Luzerne County Coroner Jillian Matthews conducted an autopsy and found the cause of death was blunt force trauma, ruling the death a homicide. Details on the age and gender of the victim were not released.
The District Attorney's Office told Newswatch 16 on Wednesday that police were working a missing persons case nearby, it is still unclear if these cases are related.
