LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Two people are dead after a house fire in Luzerne County.
Guy Hudock is still in shock that this is all that's left of his neighbor's house after flames ripped through the home in Hazle Township Saturday night.
“All the neighbors were out till two o'clock this morning, worried about if they were going to come out,” he said.
Crews were dispatched to the home on Arthur and 17th Street around 11:40 p.m., working for hours to save the family's home.
“There was no chance for nothing, I mean it just looked like it was glowing like the moon. It was like glowing because of the flames,” he added.
Hudock watched the fire unfold from his front yard.
“That's the first time I've seen a house burn that bad and lost a life,” he said.
The coroner was called on scene and that's when Hudock says he knew he wouldn't see his neighbors again.
Neighbors he tells Newswatch 16 he was close with.
“If they would be going to a doctor's appointment, I would watch the dog, they would call me their dog sitter,” explained Hudock.
And they would always return the favor.
“If I was sick or something, he would come over with his snow blower and shovel my driveway and sidewalks for me. No questions asked,” he added.
While officials have not confirmed the identities of the two who died in the house fire, neighbors say it's like losing members of their family.
“We all had high hopes that they were going to be out and alive and back to normal like they should be here. It's so sad,” Hudock mentioned.
A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire here in Hazle Township.
There is no word yet on what caused the deadly fire, but officials say it is not suspicious.
