Congenital heart defect awareness event held in Wilkes-Barre

A carnival in Wilkes-Barre aimed to raise awareness and funds for children with congenital heart defects.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — NAZ CHD Awareness and Family Planning held a fun event on Sunday to raise money and awareness for those with congenital heart defects.

There were carnival games, live music, vendors, and food trucks at Coal Street Park.

Organizers say events like these help bring people affected by congenital heart defects together and help families see that they're not alone.

"We had two CHD families here yesterday that were new. One of our CHD families that we've had for three years is here today. And you know, when you talk to them, they just, it makes a big difference to them to just knowing that there's other CHD kids out there, that there's somebody that can call for help and for advice and somebody to advocate for them when needed," said Autumn Biggs, NAZ CHD Awareness and Family Planning.

NAZ CHD Awareness and Family Planning organizes several events each year to help those with congenital heart defects.
