EDWARDSVILLE -- Competition between coffee shops is percolating in one part of Luzerne County.
A construction project in Edwardsville has a lot of people buzzing.
Curry Donuts has been a staple in the West Side Mall in Edwardsville for years.
Many shoppers were surprised when they found out that contractors are building a Dunkin' Donuts just a few yards away.
"They have the right, why not? Everybody's entitled to some money somewhere. Hey, go ahead, they got my blessings!" said Denise Billups of Kingston.
While Billups is excited about a Dunkin' Donuts moving in near her home, that's not the case for many loyal customers of Curry Donuts, including Seth Roper of Pringle.
"The people are good and I've just been coming here a long time, so I doubt if this place is going to make me change my mind."
All of this construction is happening right across the street from Curry Donuts. Workers inside tell us they have been there for about two decades and they'll do their best to keep going.
"These guys have been here forever. It's like a family in there, you know what I mean? I honestly don't think Dunkin' Donuts is going to do well here. I just can't see it," said Stan Pryharski of Hanover Township.
Permits show that the Dunkin' Donuts is moving into an empty store in the West Side Mall.
Contractors say they just started tearing up the asphalt to create a drive thru for the national coffee chain.
Curry Donuts is based in Luzerne County with 26 other stores in our region.
Kim Johnson of Kingston believes the new competition is too close.
"They should move somewhere else to make Dunkin' Donuts because [Curry Donuts] have been here for a long time and why come and mess up their business?"
The competition for coffee lovers will only heat up when that Dunkin' Donuts opens within the next few months.
