LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Protein shakes and caffeine were two of the biggest sellers on Christmas Eve at the Farmstand in Luzerne County's Back Mountain.
"I had a double shot this morning myself," said Jesse Kosierowski, barista at the store. "I needed that caffeine to get through this day."
Considering yesterday, this place was filled with customers for the store's baked goods.
"It was absolutely crazy. I made over 1000 of my orders, but I think it's just so cool that everybody's supporting local this year," added Kosierowski. "It's so nice to see this place thriving. I grew up coming to get pies here, and I was a kid with my mom's, and now that I work here, I see the same people doing that for their families. It's really nice, especially on the holidays. Everybody's so happy."
The happiness is felt all around the mercantile store, especially by the new bakery owner found inside.
"It's 100% like old-school happiness to be back in here and begging for everybody in the background again," said Amanda Doty, Busy Bee Bakery owner inside the Farmstand.
Bringing back recipes folks in the area have been longing for.
"We have two of the original diamond baker girls here, and they brought back the original sticky buttons. People from the area just absolutely adore, said Brigid Pfeiffer from Dallas.
Admiration that's not taken for granted by bakers here.
"It means the world to us. We're so happy to be back out, and we're happy to have people that never got to experience diamonds before," added Doty. "We're happy that we can bring back all of our old customers that are familiar faces that I definitely recognized from when I was here many years ago."
"This is what makes a community, I believe, you know, supporting the small businesses, having the unique things that small businesses do, and it's just you're supporting families, you're supporting the area. And it's it's it's the most important thing we have," added Pfeiffer.
Customers hope people catch on to the return of the recipes here and help it remain a staple in the community long after the holiday season.
