LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — It was a pretty bright celebration at one college campus in Luzerne County on Sunday.
A group of students and staff at Penn State Hazleton gathered for their own Diwali celebration.
Putting their own educational twist for the holiday known as the Festival of Lights.
Through food, crafts, and activities, the event gave participants a crash course on why Hindus and Buddhists celebrate Diwali.
"Learning more about different cultures is a big part of decreasing the ignorance that sometimes can be presented in society," said Shakira Akathr, PSU Hazleton freshman.
The students decorated the multicultural center with candles to symbolize what Diwali is all about the victory of light over darkness.
