KINGSTON -- Election Day is coming up in just five days. In Luzerne County, one of the most interesting contests is the race for district attorney.
The candidates faced off at a public forum at Wyoming Seminary Thursday night sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
Republican incumbent Stefanie Salavantis says she's proven herself in the position already.
But Democratic challenger Vito DeLuca says the office needs change.
"The biggest issue facing the voters today is crime and 90% of our crime is derived from drugs and drug addiction," Salavantis said. "I have focused a lot on gang intelligence units to help provide resources to our law enforcement."
"My goal is to adopt a proactive community based prosecution model, the likes of which Luzerne County has not seen," said DeLuca.
Both candidates for district attorney in Luzerne County promise to take a hard line on crime.
