Call for possible fire uncovers marijuana operation in Duryea

Police were on scene at the home on Marcy Street for hours Monday.

DURYEA, Pa. — Crews were first called just before 10am Monday for a report of a possible fire at a home on Marcy Street in Duryea. 

When crews arrived, they found a power wire to the residence at 251 Marcy Street was on fire. 

According to a Duryea Police press release, a strong odor of natural gas was coming from the residence, which prompted crews to enter the home check for anyone inside. 

Once inside, police say they found the home empty but found evidence of criminal activity. 

After obtaining and executing a search warrant, police located a "sophisticated marijuana growing operation", per the press release.

Officials did not say how much marijuana was found, or if there are any suspects connected to the home. 

Police say the investigation is ongoing
