Busy night for restaurants in Luzerne County during final days of Lenten

Many continue the tradition of not eating meat on Fridays during Lent. The season officially ends on Easter Sunday.

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. — It's the last Friday of Lent, which means a busy night for restaurants. Especially those that sell pizza.

Newswatch 16 stopped by Grotto Pizza along Wyoming Avenue in Edwardsville, where families were grabbing a bite to eat. Many observe the tradition of not eating meat on Fridays during Lent.

Workers say they can always expect a big crowd at the Grotto on a Good Friday.

"The first Friday in Lent and the last Friday in Lent, though, are the bookends for really the peaks, if you will, of the of the valley of Lent. Some of the seafood pizzas and the vegetarian pizzas, they are always a big seller this time of year as well as extra items like a fish and chips and pasta," said Tony DeCosmo from Grotto Pizza.

The Lenten season officially ends on Easter Sunday.
