Exploring the science of Halloween

Photojournalist James Pennington gives us a look at Wednesday's event at Misericordia.

DALLAS, Pa. — The Dead Alchemist Society at Misericordia University held their annual "Things that Go Boom in the Night" event Wednesday evening on campus.

The event featured chemistry demonstrations and experiments, including 'vomiting' pumpkins.

"Seeing the kids just have fun with their hands on activities. Those are the thrill marks of it, to see the light on their faces shine with the excitement of it. " said Olive Vnuk, President of the Dead Alchmesti Society.

Organizers said it was a great way to have some Halloween fun and get kids interested in science.

"I think Halloween is a great event to highlight science, because kids are already interested in Halloween, and if we can bring a little science spin to it with colors and reactions and a little bit of mystery, I think it makes all the difference". said Dr. Anna Fedor, Associate Professor of Chemistry.
