HANOVER TOWNSHIP -- A man's body was recovered from the Susquehanna River in Luzerne County.
According to police, a fisherman found the body around 8 a.m. Sunday in Hanover Township.
Police said it's hard to determine the man's exact age, but he appears to be in his 30's to 50's.
The body was found about 1/4 mile downstream of the Breslau boat ramp, near a small bit of land that juts into the river. Locals said it's a popular fishing spot.
While the area may look like the perfect place to get back to nature, neighbors said it's become a magnet for people looking for a different type of recreation.
Lynette Falls locks the gate to the boat ramp every night, and tries to keep the area green.
"We try so the families can enjoy it, the people walking, the fisherman, they don't want to see partiers here," said Falls.
She added that the activity is destroying the natural habitat, with people leaving behind garbage.
Another neighbor said she is not even shocked by the grim discovery.
"This ain't the first time they have found a dead body down here. It gets a little scary. I have been living here since 1968, I am telling you, you are not safe," said Mary Richmond.
