Bicyclist struck by car in Wilkes-Barre

Officers responded to the crash around 5 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of Market and River Streets.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Police have released more information following a deadly crash in Wilkes-Barre.

Officers responded to a bicyclist struck by a car at the corner of Market and River streets around 5 p.m. Tuesday. Officials say the cyclist was traveling west on Market Street and entered the intersection of South River Street, where he was struck by a vehicle traveling south on River Street.

The cyclist, a 36-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to an area hospital, where he died.

Market and River streets, as well as the Market Street Bridge, were shut down for hours before reopening late Tuesday night.

The deadly crash remains under investigation in Luzerne County.
