HAZLETON, Pa. — A unique bench is up at a park in Luzerne County on Thursday.
PPL and the local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 1600 donated the bench to the Fallen Lineman Memorial Park. It's made of 1,000 pounds of recycled plastic collected from materials used to protect electrical supplies.
"It's a horrible thing to lose a husband; I lost my first one to cancer, so just having a place for people to come and remember those people it's nice and to see that we don't forget them, you know," said Melinda Confair, PPL Electric Utilities Susquehanna Region, Facilities Technician 3
According to Lineman Central, 42 of every 100,000 linemen are killed on the job each year.
