PITTSTON, Pa. — A home improvement program is expanding to part of Luzerne County.
The Beautiful Blocks program is coming to Pittston.
The program provides matching grants of up to $1,000 per property to groups of people making exterior home improvements.
City officials, officials from NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Department of Economic and Community Development were at the announcement on Wednesday.
"It's going to have a significant impact when you layer this on other programs that we're doing. It just gives us the opportunity to serve more and more residents. We've really made dealing with some issues in our neighborhoods and providing support in our neighborhoods a priority. A program like this is really significant," said Pittston Mayor Michael Lombardo.
The program has been operating in Scranton and Carbondale for several years.
