LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Summer camps might still be underway, but some families in Luzerne County are already looking ahead to the new school year.
That's why an early learning center in Wilkes-Barre is getting a jump on its back-to-school health screenings. On Wednesday, Luzerne County Head Start hosted a health fair.
The organization provided about 700 new students with vision, hearing, and lead screenings this school year.
"This is our attempt. I think we've been quite successful today at getting this started so that when school starts at the end of August, we have less children to screen, and other children have already been through the process," said Lynn Evans Biga, Luzerne County Head Start executive director.
Luzerne County Head Start was able to screen more than 100 students at the health fair.
