WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — In Luzerne County, folks were walking to support a local shelter.
Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania hosted the 16th Annual Walk for Hope to benefit Ruth's Place, the only emergency shelter for women experiencing homelessness in Luzerne County.
It was a one-mile walk on a route filled with organizations that support domestic violence victims, people experiencing homelessness, and other struggles.
“Last year at Ruth’s Place, we saw a 32 percent increase in women seeking shelter and utilizing the shelter. So it's more important than ever, to keep this issue of homelessness on the forefront of our minds and give when we can," said Crystal Kotlowski, Volunteers of America Pennsylvania.
All the money raised from the walk will go toward helping Ruth's Place in Luzerne County.
