Adaptive bikes distributed to kids in Luzerne County

Adaptive bikes were given to kids with disabilities in Luzerne County on Thursday.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — With the end of the school year on the horizon. Students across our area will soon be spending a lot more time outside.

To make sure everyone can get out, adaptive bikes were given to families in Luzerne County. Eight adaptive bikes were distributed on Thursday at the Wilkes-Barre Area High School Stadium in Plains Township.

The bikes are specially made for kids with disabilities so that they can enjoy a ride like anyone else. It was made possible through a partnership between the non-profit Variety and the Luzerne Intermediate Unit.

Before the students took the bikes home they got to take them for a test ride.

"When we're over in Kirby Park and going over to the special needs playground. This is going to be awesome for us," said Kim Holley of Wilkes-barre.

On top of the giveaway, three more kids were fitted for their own adaptive bikes.
