WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet Timmy.
"He is a special case, he is a special boy," said Education and Volunteer Coordinator Carol Amos, SPCA of Luzerne County.
That is why Timmy needs a special home. Timmy was left on the street and then was hit by a car back in November. But rescue workers at SPCA of Luzerne County brought him in and saved him.
"We have since nursed him back to health. He does have full use of 3 legs. We did keep the 4th leg which he does use occasionally," Amos explained.
Timmy is about two years old and is mixed, probably with some terrier and lab in him. Rescue workers at SPCA of Luzerne County think it is possible he was abused before he was abandoned because he is very nervous when meeting new people.
"Probably didn't have, because he has trust issues. That's why you have to go slow with him, that's why he's people selective. We don't know what his past is. We don't always know. We think it wasn't the best. But he's looking for his perfect home now," Amos said.
Timmy does not love the camera, but you can quickly see how trusting he is around people he knows. It will take him time to adjust, so his new family will need to be patient.
"So Timmy did not like me at first. We were not friends, but we are friends now. He had to warm up and just get to know you, you move slow around him, he will come out of his shell and he will really be friendly with you," said Amos.
Rescue workers say once he warms up to you, it is the most rewarding thing. Timmy should be the only pet in the home, and his humans should be adults. Rescue workers think a place with not a lot of foot traffic or visitors would make Timmy happiest.
"I would say a quiet home. He is active, he does run around on three legs so don't get me wrong. A nice yard to run around and play. He loves his stuffy toys. But just a place where he can cuddle up. He loves to lay on his bed and just take it all in," Amos said.
