The United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania hosted the 8th Annual Welcoming Scranton Celebration

SCRANTON, Pa. — Welcoming neighbors, new and old in the Electric City this weekend.

The United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania hosted the 8th Annual Welcoming Scranton Celebration on Saturday.

The event is part of welcoming week, a national celebration meant to foster a sense of community and belonging.

"It's our way to bring newcomers that are in the neighborhood, plus traditional families and new immigrant families, to come and share cultures and build community and diversity within our neighborhood," said Holly Yorkonis of United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

The event also featured more than 15 vendors, free ice cream, balloon animals and face painting for families in Scranton.
