SCRANTON, Pa. — The holiday season has taken over the Electric City.
The WEJL Tower Lighting is a longtime tradition in Scranton.
The first time the lights lit the Scranton sky was in 1960.
Since then, the tower lighting has turned into a block party that welcomes thousands of people to Penn Avenue.
Nearly 500 lights decorate the 296-foot tower.
A fireworks show followed the lighting Wednesday night.
The event marks the beginning of the Christmas season in northeastern and central Pennsylvania.
