Pocket park opens in Scranton

The park features a playground and outdoor fitness equipment, and it has a fitting theme.

SCRANTON, Pa. — A long-forgotten green space in Scranton has been turned into a place for kids to play.

The mayor unveiled a pocket park along Wayne Avenue Wednesday.

The revamped spot is located behind the Station 8 Firehouse, and even has a firefighting theme.

"There's a fire truck next to our fire station it will be a great destination for kids in Scranton and in the entire area to come play on the fire truck and be right next to one of our fire stations. So we're excited about that element in addition to the adult fitness equipment." said Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti.

The fitness equipment available at the park includes a leg press, chest press, dip and pull-up bars, an accessible arm bicycle, and step jumps.

The park is located at 1800 Wayne Ave, in Scranton.

It cost $197,000 to build the new park in north Scranton, the money came from the city's American Rescue Plan funds.
