Watch out for the giant grocery cart | Pantry Raid 2024

Supermarkets and businesses in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties are joining forces for Prospector’s Pantry Raid.

MOOSIC, Pa. — It's time once again for Prospector's Pantry Raid!  The Rock 107 radio host teams up with Gerrity's and the CEO Weinberg Food Bank to collect food, cash and raise awareness for food insecurity in our area.

"Pantry Raid is our couple day long food drive to help out the CEO Weinberg Food Bank and they get the food out to people all over NEPA.  So we're looking for non-perishable food items, we're looking for cash donations, what ever you can do," Prospector said.

Prospector will be taking this giant street legal shopping cart to Gerrity's Supermarket and Ace Hardware locations all over Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties over the next two days.  It's easy to donate.

"If you want to empty out your own pantry or if you want to come in and grab something off the shelf, that's fine too.  All we care about is that you're helping us to contribute to help the need of our community.  And for $10 you can get pre-packed bags.  Yeah exactly.  We just packed it with all the stuff that the food bank needs, the non-perishable items that people need," Gerrity's Owner Joe Fasula said.

"We need non-perishable food items because we need to help out our fellow citizens who are desperately in need of food this time of year and it's worst than ever," Prospector said.

The donations are distributed to food banks in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

"The Weinberg Food Bank serves Lackawanna, Luzerne, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties.  So all the food that's donated, cash that's donated, stays right here in the community," Jen Warabak of CEO Weinberg Food Bank said.

Richard Ziegler dropped off a donation this morning.  He has been on the receiving end of this before.

"It's nice to give back.  I see a lot of stuff on tv about kids going hungry. They didn't let my kids go hungry," Richard Ziegler of Scranton said.

Prospector and his giant shopping cart will be at Gerrity's locations in Luzerne County today and Lackawanna County tomorrow.
