Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz visits Scranton Friday as part of the final stretch of the Harris-Walz campaign

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz visited Scranton Friday. Newswatch 16's Adithya Iyer reports on what Walz said during his rally.

SCRANTON, Pa. — The energy in the room was high throughout Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz’s speech during his rally at the Scranton Cultural Center on Friday.

“I'm feeling great; this is the third event I've been to. They're always so energetic, and he's just a normal guy running for office, and that's what makes him so special," said Kevin Fisher of Stroudsburg.

"Energized, re-energized, and I definitely have a renewed confidence that we're going to do this and we're going to elect Harris and Walz," said Mary Jo Sheridan of Scranton.

That energy was apparent throughout Walz’s speech, especially when discussing former President Trump.

"There's many, many reasons that we want to vote against Donald Trump, and I am not by nature a petty person, but I will own this one. I just don't want to turn on the TV and never see him again,” said Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate.

Walz also touched on some key campaign policies that resonated with the audience.

“Once you get 60, you really care about Medicare. I'll tell you that, you really start caring. Because Medicare and social security are the two greatest anti-poverty programs we've ever implemented," said Walz.

“I'm 62, so I love the fact that they believe in and want to strengthen social security,” said Sheridan.

"At face value, it seems more important to the elderly, but I'll be old someday, so I hope that these institutions stay around," said Fisher.

Gov. Walz is currently on his way to the southwestern region of the country; tomorrow, he'll be campaigning in New Mexico.
