GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A ceremony was held Saturday at a new veterans memorial in Lackawanna County.
Earlier this year, Newswatch 16 was at Greenfield Township Community Park when the memorial was being built.
On Saturday, to celebrate Veterans Day, the township held a ribbon cutting for the memorial during a special service which included a flyover of two vintage World War II-era planes.
"It's been really great. I didn't think we'd have a big turnout because of the weather, but the community really came together, and I'm so proud just coming out to see this. It's just been wonderful," said Patty Apostolakes, Greenfield Township Community Park Project Manager.
The memorial was designed by a Gold Star father who lost his son in Iraq in 2005.
