SCRANTON, Pa. — Dozens of students roamed around the Mcllhenny Ballroom at the University of Scranton.
This might look like a job fair, but it's actually a place for students to check out volunteer opportunities.
"These agencies being here will teach our students to, to, you know, give a little bit of that responsibility to do more, to be more, to give more back to the community that is shaping them throughout their four years at the University of Scranton," said Avianna Carilli, Coordinator of Domestic and International Service Programs Center for Service & Social Justice.
"Being Jesuit educated, it's very important that we be that man and woman for others. And this fair is how we do it," said Sam Peters, University of Scranton sophomore.
More than 800 students attended the annual Volunteer Fair.
For the second year in a row, Peters plans to volunteer in any way he can.
"You know, your hard work and your dedication make someone's life better. I think that's just such an inspirational thing, and it really keeps me coming back for more."
For the more than 90 organizations on hand like Dunmore Health Care Center, the volunteer fair is a chance to find a new workforce.
"I know it means for the residents to have volunteers come in because they offer all different programs, and maybe we can't offer them until they come in for music and cooking with the residents," said Stephanie Hensle, Recreation Director at Dunmore Health Care Center. "It makes their lives a whole lot richer."
Senior Zoe Honney says attending the fair over the last four years has given her a chance to learn about all the offerings she never knew about growing up in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
"Being from the Scranton area. I never really knew the need that our community had. And being part of this office has opened my eyes to how many agencies we have and how many good ways there are to get involved and do service for our local area," said Honney.
