SCRANTON, Pa. — The state Emergency Management Agency said Wednesday 45 members from Pennsylvania-Task Force 1 are on their way to North Carolina to help out with the response to Tropical Story Debby.
That band of emergency workers and support personnel includes one person from Scranton, said city Fire Chief John Judge. He was identified as fire Captain Robert Zoltewicz, who is being deployed as a communication specialist.
"Our Commonwealth stands ready to help North Carolina — and any state that's affected by this storm — get back on their feet," Governor Josh Shapiro said in a statement.
The team will report to Raleigh, where they will receive detailed orders.
The task force is one of 28 teams attached to the National Urban Search and Rescue Response System. The team is sponsored by the Philadelphia Fire Department.
