TEGNA Foundation grant goes to Bread Basket of NEPA

The nonprofit group serves individuals, families, and veterans across Lackawanna County.

SCRANTON, Pa. — An organization that helps our hungry neighbors has received a grant from the TEGNA Foundation.

The Bread Basket of NEPA accepted a $1,500 donation on Friday at Elm Park United Methodist Church in Scranton, one of the locations used for food distribution.

The nonprofit currently supports seven food pantries throughout Lackawanna County to provide traditional nonperishable food items, as well as fresh foods. The group serves individuals, families, and veterans across Lackawanna County, according to their website.

"A donation like this helps us to feed over 21,000 individuals last year alone. We anticipate the numbers growing this coming year, and it's great to have a community partner like TEGNA and WNEP to help us in our mission," said Rosemary Bohenek, board chair of The Bread Basket of NEPA.

The TEGNA Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in communities served by TEGNA Inc. The community grant program serves to address local community needs. TEGNA is the parent company of WNEP.
