SCRANTON, Pa. — Scranton police have filed homicide charges against a 17-year-old reputed street gang member who is a suspect in a deadly shooting last month.
Charges against Kenneth Tapia have been upgraded to criminal homicide and non-negligent manslaughter, along with gun charges, tampering with evidence, and receiving stolen property.
Investigators say they believe Tapia shot Robert Dawson, 32, of Scranton, during a large fight on April 9 near Weston Field. Dawson later died at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
He was charged as an adult last month with rioting, aggravated assault, and simple assault.
Tapia is locked up in the Lackawanna County Prison.
