DUNMORE -- Lackawanna County will soon have a new summertime attraction. A splash pad for kids is being built in Dunmore.
The splash pad will honor the memories of three people from the borough.
We met two grandmothers from Lackawanna County who have a long summer ahead. The real work comes in finding things to fill the time and keep their grandkids cool.
"You take them here and there, you do day things with them, take them to movies maybe," said Mary Miller.
So, when they brought their granddaughters to Sherwood Park in Dunmore, they saw a very welcome sight.
"I didn't know what was going on because I live in the country and I guess I haven't read the newspapers," said Corolla Sawka.
A contractor is a few weeks away from opening a splash pad at Sherwood Park, right in the heart of Dunmore.
The Dunmore splash pad has been an idea for a little more than a year. Three different families from the borough contributed, each donating in memory of a family member.
The last fundraiser was in April. The Jog for Jude 5k helped pay for the splash pad. The run's namesake Jude Zayac is one of the three people being memorialized with the splash pad.
Kids in the area will make good use of it. They could have used a place to cool off.
"Yes, splash parks are great. They are, they're wonderful. We heard about it."
"It's going to be awesome! It's going to be really fun!"
Now there's something to look forward to that will make the dog days of summer go by even faster.
"There's movies and stuff, you know, you can get to. But, you don't know what to do with them sitting in the house. So, it's good to have someplace to go," added Sawka.
Organizers expect the splash pad at Sherwood Park in Dunmore to be up and running shortly after July 4.
