Society of Irish Women hold annual St. Patrick's Day dinner in Blakely

The Society of Irish Women gathered in Blakely Sunday night for its 22nd Annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner.

BLAKELY, Pa. — The Society of Irish Women, based in Scranton, held its annual St. Patrick's Day dinner Sunday night at Fiorelli's Catering in Blakely.

Hundreds attended the dinner, where they embrace Irish heritage and celebrate the work they do in the community the organization has been doing so for the last 25 years.

"But as we've grown over the years, we started doing some fundraising so that we ourselves can give back to the community to places like St. Francis Assisi, the Scranton Cultural Center, a lot of different food banks and shelters in the area," said Alice McDermott, Society of Irish Women President.

Of course, the celebration would not be complete without traditional bag pipes here at the 22nd annual dinner in Lackawanna County.
