Small businesses in Scranton receiving grants

Nine businesses will receive grants from the American Rescue Plan Act Small Business Startup and Expansion Grant Program.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Some small business owners in Scranton are celebrating after receiving grants to launch and improve their spaces in the city.

Officials from the White House stopped by the Electric City Tuesday to announce more than $500,000 in grants for nine small businesses.

The money was awarded through the American Rescue Plan Act.

One of the businesses that received funds was Zummo's Cafe.

More than $16,000 will go towards renovating Zummo's location along Marion Street.

"We were barely keeping up in our previous layout, and with the new redesign and additional money, we're able to service our customers even that much better, quicker. And you know, we've updated our style a little bit here as well," said Robin Berndt, Zummo's Cafe owner.

This marked the fourth round of grants distributed to small businesses in Scranton through the American Rescue Plan Act.
