Scranton Prep High School Honors Cody Barrasse

The 12th annual Cody Barrasse Memorial 3 on 3 Tournament is this Saturday.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Cody Barrasse is described as generous and fun loving with a fighting spirit.

"He was fun, energetic, most importantly loved to compete and have a good time," Cody's brother Joseph Barrasse said.

Cody grew up in the Scranton area and was just 22-years-old when he was struck and killed by a car in Pittsburgh in 2013.  Since then, his family and friends set up the Cody Barrasse Memorial Foundation to keep his spirit alive.  The group's two big fundraisers are this Saturday.  The first will be the Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament at the Xavier Center at Scranton Prep.

"We've had anywhere from 50-70 teams play basketball so we're hoping the community comes out again and has a great time," Barrasse said.

The money raised goes towards scholarship programs at Scranton Prep High School.  The deadline to sign up is today.

"So we've got middle school, high school, adults, we have men's, women's.  It's really a great time for anyone who wants to come out, dust off the shoes a little bit and play some basketball," Barrasse said.

Another event takes place later Saturday evening at the Scranton Cultural Center.  Continue Cody's Commitment will raise money for organ donor awareness.

"We want to highlight why organ donation is needed and just highlight the last gift that he gave to our community," Barrasse said.

The events have raised more than $230,000 in the last 12 years.  The deadline to sign up for the 3 on 3 tournament is today.  You can do that here.
