'Shook me right out of bed' | Man struck by lightning while sleeping during Monday night's storm

As storms rolled through Lackawanna County, the only evidence of that storm was left on Michael Grohol's body.

CARBONDALE, Pa. — It's a sunny, bright day outside the Grohol's home in Carbondale. It's a drastic difference from the storms that rolled through Monday night in Lackawanna County. The only evidence of that storm is left on Michael Grohol's body.

"This is where the blood was coming up. You can see the mark there," points out his wife, Donna.

The 85-year-old never heard the storms outside Monday night, but he sure felt them.

"Shook me right out of bed. Then when I got up, I'm bleeding this way, I'm bleeding this way. My chest is bleeding, so I call my wife," said Michael.

Michael's wife of 60 years, Donna, believes the strike of lightning came right through the bedroom window while he was sleeping in bed.

"The EMTs came, cops came. The whole world was here. You couldn't ask for better guys here in the area," said Michael.

The 85-year-old was then rushed to the hospital. Despite the marks left behind, Michael is otherwise fine.

"They checked me and checked me, but they couldn't find anything except where I'm bleeding. Other than that, I'm fine, but I'm tired," said Michael.

Donna calls it a miracle, especially since her husband has a pacemaker and just beat cancer.

"He's fine. I'll keep him another few years," laughs Donna.

While they say lightning never strikes the same place twice, this Carbondale couple has quite the track record.

"Lightning struck the faucet; we had water shooting out all over the place from that. We're at his brother's house, lightning hit the television aerial came through all the sockets- blew everything out in his brothers house," said Donna.
