DUNMORE, Pa. — "I was walking from this corner to that corner," said Elizabeth Lutz.
A normal walk down Mill Street in Dunmore quickly turned into a nightmare for Elizabeth Lutz after this black SUV hit her family's dog.
"I'm sorry, just reliving it. I hear, I hear its cry," said Lutz.
And as she screamed for help, the suspect allegedly just drove away.
"I didn't know really what was going on, other than why isn't anyone helping, like, why isn't there anybody around? It seemed like it was so dead in the streets," said Lutz. "And then all of a sudden, all these people started just coming and pouring out and helping."
5-year-old Roscoe suffered several broken bones and two hernias.
As his fight for survival continues, the family took to social media to try and find the person responsible.
"There were more shares of the post than comments, and people that I didn't even know were contacting me, you know, with information and well-wishing and advice on how to handle the situation," said Eric Lutz.
Within hours, this Facebook post was shared hundreds of times. Along with tips on the driver, people donated thousands of dollars to a GoFundMe for Roscoe's medical bills.
"I was really taken aback, and when I shared that news with my mother, she was verklempt. She couldn't, she couldn't even speak," said Lutz.
Dunmore Police say they are investigating, and through those tips coming from the Facebook post, they have identified a person of interest. But so far, no charges have been filed.
Right now, the family is looking to get Roscoe the surgery he desperately needs.
They urge pet owners and drivers to just be more aware.
"I'd rather me get hit than Roscoe," said Elizabeth. " You know, there's more things for medical, for me to heal, and I have insurance and, you know, just, it's he, he could die off of getting hit just a little bump."
Dunmore Borough Police say they have located the vehicle involved but have not released any information about the driver.
