MOOSIC, Pa. — Alzheimer's Disease is a brain disorder that affects the memory. Millions of people are affected in some way.
"About 280,000 people in Pennsylvania are going through an Alzheimer's diagnosis right now, and about 400,000 caregivers. Those numbers, unfortunately, keep rising every year," Jeremy Bland said.
Saturday hundreds of people will take steps for a cure at the Walk to End Alzheimer's at PNC Field in Moosic.
"It's becoming one of our larger walks for the Greater Pennsylvania chapter. There's going to be hundreds of people here next weekend, so we're really looking forward to having people out on the concourse here," Bland said.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Alzheimer's Association.
'I've been on the walk committee for probably about eight years now, just trying to do whatever I can for the walk and for trying to get to a point where we can live in a world without Alzheimer's," Mark Entwistle said.
Currently, the Scranton Wilkes Barre walk is at nearly 50% of its goal to raise 125,000.
"We're probably about 60% of our goal right now, which goes for the care, support, and research that we do every single year," Entwistle said.
Newswatch 16's Ally Gallo will emcee the event. The Walk to End Alzheimer's will be held on Saturday, October 19, at PNC Field in Moosic. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the ceremony starts at 10.
