Scranton youth shelter secures new space

NEPA Youth Shelter held a fundraiser tonight and provided an update on their search for a new teen drop-in center.

SCRANTON, Pa. — New tonight, a nonprofit in Scranton will have a new home come the new year.

The NEPA Youth Shelter held a fundraiser tonight at the Green Ridge Club along Wyoming Avenue.

The organization runs a housing program and an after-school teen drop-in center.

The center was forced to find a new home over the summer when the landlord moved on.

Founder and Executive Director Maureen Maher-Gray tells us the group just signed a lease yesterday for a new location along Providence Road.

"They love the teen center. I get calls and texts all the time, when are you open, are you open today, what's for dinner, so it's important for them to have a place to go that's supervised and fun." said Maher-Gray.

Nepa Youth Shelter expects to open its new teen center in January in Scranton.
