SCRANTON -- Big news in the political world where it appears the game of: “Will She? Won’t She?” will soon be over.
Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her presidential bid this weekend.
The Democrat is no stranger to this area, having family ties here in northeastern Pennsylvania.
“I think it’s going to be a good time for Scranton. We're going to be back on the map.”
Evie Rafalko McNulty says she`s is thrilled to hear Hillary Clinton is taking another shot at the country`s top office. McNulty served as a delegate for Hillary Clinton during Hillary`s presidential bid in 2008. She considers Hillary a friend and a true Scranton native.
“She was just talking about Scranton like everything just came back to her. There was nobody who could advance that. That was like a part of her heart and soul she was talking about,” said McNulty.
Hillary has family roots here in the Scranton area and has made several visits back home.
She was here as First Lady with husband President Bill Clinton for the funeral of her father, Hugh Rodham in 1993.
The funeral reception was held at Cooper`s Seafood Restaurant in Scranton. Cooper's manager Scott Wish says Hillary could make the restaurant a campaign stop since Bill`s become big fan. Unfortunately, Wish says Bill's last take out call caused some concern.
“He had ordered our stuffed jalapeno peppers, which is a favorite of his. His nurse`s aide actually called us and said, 'No, he cannot have the poppers,'” said Wish.
Paul McGloin Sr. has been taking care of Hugh Rodham`s gravestone at the Washburn Cemetery in Scranton's west side.
McGloin says he's done this for 22 years since befriending Hillary and Bill during Hugh`s funeral.
“They`re just two very wonderful down to earth people. They really are. They`re just super intelligent and I`m looking for great things for our country with her,” said McGloin.
McNulty says she`s a supporter of Clinton, but says she will be torn between Hillary and Scranton`s other native child, Joe Biden, if the Vice President decides to run.
“Somebody asked where I was, where I was going to be on the election and I said, 'Well, I`m going to wait and see what the vice president doing,' But either way you look at it, we`re going to have a president with roots in Scranton,” said McNulty.
