SCRANTON, Pa. — Drivers in Lackawanna County take warning: Wednesday's commutes could be a little hairy. School children in Scranton and Dunmore, however, will likely have few complaints.
Former President Donald Trump's visit to Scranton on Wednesday is poised to cause disruption in some parts of the city, as police warn of road closures and detours and schools announce they'll dismiss early.
On Tuesday, the Scranton Police Department said that altered traffic patterns should start at 8 a.m. and last through 6 p.m. Drivers should prepare for congestion around the venue Trump will visit — Riverfront Sports along West Olive Street — and along his undisclosed route.
Steer clear of Providence Road and Oak Street if you're not attending the rally.
The Scranton School District announced they will dismiss early. Students at the elementary and high schools will leave at 10:50 a.m. and the intermediate schools will let out at 11:30 a.m.
After school activities and sports are cancelled.
The Dunmore School District also gave notice of early dismissals because roads and highways will be closed around the normal dismissal time.
The high school will dismiss at 11:15 a.m. and the elementary center will dismiss at 11:30 a.m.
