SCRANTON, Pa. — "It was like a nightmare, Beverlee Bekanich. "I felt sorry for the people who didn't have family."
She still remembers the frightened faces of residents who were rushed out of the Mountain View Care and Rehabilitation Center in Scranton Friday night.
All 85 residents had to find a new place to stay after the Department of Health found the facility didn't have adequate power or working fire alarms.
"The aids came with white bags, and they packed us clothes for one night and what we needed for an overnight stay and where we were going," said Bekanich.
"It was a late night, a very long night. Many of our employees all came together."
Along with emergency crews, Director of Nursing Kim Yablonski and 40 other employees at Oak Ridge Rehabilitation and Health Care Center assisted in relocating residents from Mountain View Friday night.
Doing anything they could to help make sure everyone was safe.
"We were there to support and help in any way we could," said Yablonski. "What I saw there that evening I hope I never see again."
The health care facility in Taylor took in 20 residents, one of which was Mary Ann Taylor's mother.
"This has become her home already because everyone is just so kind to her," said Taylor. "I'm forever grateful to Oak Ridge for doing this."
