TAYLOR, Pa. — Residents like Wendy Goetz are fed up and ready for a solution that will slow down drivers along this stretch of Main Street in Taylor.
12-year-old Skylar Edwards was hit by a pick-up truck while crossing the road on his way to school almost two weeks ago.
"I cannot imagine what it is like for these kids to cross the street," said Wendy Goetz, Taylor.
"In the meantime, we got to do something because this poor little boy is still hurting right now because of something that unfortunately happened that shouldn't have happened," said Joseph Labrosky, Taylor.
At Monday night's Riverside School Board meeting, Superintendent Paul Brennan addressed the concerns. He says the school, borough, state, and community have to take care of it together.
"We received $104,000 dollars to make improvements out there for the pedestrian area. We have had a crossing guard position advertised and posted multiple times this past time. We've had it since last August," said Paul Brennan, Riverside School District Superintendent.
Residents say the meeting was a step in the right direction.
"It's everybody's responsibility, and they got to stop passing the buck back and forth between the borough and the school district. Something needs to be done, no more excuses. Our kids are at stake," said Ronald Gallagher, Taylor.
Skylar Edward's family says he is now back home from the hospital but still has a long road to recovery.
Police have not said if the driver who hit him will face charges.
